President's Message
Hello everyone, On September 28th we will resume our regular monthly meetings. Except for November and December regular meetings are scheduled for 4th Wednesday of each month. For those two months the dates are November 16th and December 21st (2011 only). Vice-President Tony Marone will give an update on our dinner dance. It will include location, cost, and dining choices. Members and non-members are welcome at this event. By now those members eligible for Medicare should have received their reimbursement checks. If you have not contact City of New York, Office of City Labor Relations Health Benefits Programs, 40 Rector Street 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10006, Attn: Medicare Reimbursement Unit or contact Cheryl Clark at 212-306-7610. (DO NOT CONTACT HER FOR ANY OTHER REASON). If you are eligible for Medicare contact the NYC Employees Benefits Office at 212-513-0470. They will not look for you! The cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for September 2011 through August 2012 benefit payments is 1.4%. As a result, an eligible retired member with an annual benefit of $18,000 or more received a maximum monthly increase of $21.00. We will now be accepting dues for 2012 membership renewals. It is $25.00 to renew your membership. After March 31st it will be $30.00 to renew. Finally, this year is the 10th anniversary 9/11. Inside this newsletter there is a page dedicated to that event. We lost 23 police officers that day. I recently read a report that stated as of August 2011, 45 officers that worked at Ground Zero had died of cancer related diseases and that hundreds of more were battling the disease. Please take a moment of your time to remember all those (uniformed and civilian) that have died. Please say a prayer for those that that are fighting cancer to live.
Fraternally,Rich Adler, President

The Next Meeting Wednesday, October 26th, 2011 1900hrs FOP Lodge # 3, Sarasota
EDITOR’S CORNER We are now well into our hurricane season and we have manage to come away unscathed. We still have at least six to eight weeks of this season to go, so please don’t let your guard down. This September 11th marks the 10th anniversary of what has become known as "Patriots' Day". This day, we honor those men and women who lost their lives during the attack on the World Trade Center. We especially honor those 23 men and women of the New York City Police Department who gave up their lives after entering the World Trade Center during this attack and tried to save as many civilian lives as possible with total disregard and sacrifice of their own. We must never forget this tragedy and remember all the first responders, for without them many more lives would have been lost. "WE MUST NEVER FORGET 9-11-01" Lou Lebron / Editor
